Certificate of Appropriateness to install four framed murals on the south elevation at 7 S Broadway
Body
PURPOSE:
The owner is requesting a Certificate of Appropriateness to install four temporary murals printed on banners and framed on the south elevation facing Skinny Park at 7 S Broadway.)

BACKGROUND:
Public Art is requesting to install two mural projects as part of the Skinny Park renovations. The renovations to Skinny Park was approved by the DRC in March of this year. The murals on 7 S Broadway along Skinny Park consists of four murals printed on banners, framed, and hung along the wall. The murals area meant to be changed out with new designs every few years. Mural designs for this project will be updated on a schedule yet to be determined, but they will remain in place for no less than one year. Each mural will be 8 feet high and 12 feet wide in a simple frame. The first murals will be inspired by four vintage postage stamps from countries of origin of Aurora residents. Each mural will include a QR code for the public to access augmented reality through their phones; when viewed through the phone screen, 3D animation will appear to be a part of the mural. The company chosen is Illia Pashkov. The design of the murals is not finalized but will be based on the stamps. Per the timeline of the project, approval is being sought based on the qualifications of the artist selected by APAC. The project is funded by the City

DISCUSSION:
The mural concept has been reviewed by the City Public Art Director and approved by the Aurora Public Art Commission. This recommendation goes to the FoxWalk Design Review Committee for recommendation, and finally to the Building, Zoning, and Economic Development Committee for a final decision.
