SUBJECT:title
A Traffic Study for "No-Left-Turn" signage for traffic exiting Brooks Elementary School onto Stonebridge Blvd. Ward 10, Alderman Johnson
body
PURPOSE:
To study the possibility of installing "No Left Turn" signage for vehicles exiting Brooks Elementary School onto Stonebridge Blvd.
BACKGROUND:
A school principal requested a study for the installation of No Left Turn signage for vehicles coming out of Brooks Elementary School Parking Lot onto Stonebridge Blvd. .
DISCUSSION:
Stonebridge Blvd. intersects E. Indian Trail with a Traffic Signal to the North of the Brooks School Parking Lot exit. A median stretches 140-ft from the signalized intersection South to the exit of Brooks Elementary School Parking Lot. The North-bound Left-Turn Lane on Stonebridge Blvd. is also 140-ft in length. During busy school dismissal and drop off times, the Left-Turn Lane may become full, waiting for the signal on E. Indian Trail, this causing grid-lock at the exit of Brooks School as exiting vehicles block South-bound traffic on Stonebridge Blvd.
It should be noted that a left turn restriction would force traffic back into the neighborhoods to the south. This action will cause to movements that staff is concerned about. The first would be an increase in u-turn movement in this corridor. The second would be an increase in traffic on Hamman Way.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
No impact based on staff recommendation.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends denial
