PURPOSE:
The Nancy Young Elementary School PTA is requesting permission to conduct a 5K run to raise funds for additional educational programs and resources for the school.
BACKGROUND:
This will be the 7th year for the event and is expected to have approximately 900 participants and utilize 50 volunteers. The route was approved in 2008 by the Aurora Police Department based on it keeps north of Liberty St. (minimizing congestion) and does not require closing down Asbury (south of Liberty) and prohibiting all residential traffic in that area.
DISCUSSION:
The organizers of the event are responsible for all costs associated with holding the run. The registration form highlights a race day vendor expo, awards ceremony, post-race party. In addition to submitting their Certificate of Insurance, prior to the run, the event organizers will need to submit a copy of all participants signed waivers to Youth & Senior Services for forwarding to the City Risk Management Department.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The event organizers are requesting services from the Aurora Police Department Traffic Control Division, the Aurora Fire Department Paramedics, and Streets Maintenance for barricades and cardboard trash bins.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
