SUBJECT:
A resolution appointing members to the Advisory Commission on Disabilities.

BACKGROUND:
In October of 2018, the City Council voted to create a new advisory committee focused on better supporting persons in the community with disabilities. The Advisory Commission on Disabilities will work to identify areas of improvements may be made in the city. The commission will work with city departments and partner agencies.

DISCUSSION:
The new commission will be comprised of nine (9) members and will utilize an active advisory subcommittee as well as identified key partner agencies. The nominees in this resolution are the initial members and will work to set initial priorities and goals.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
Approval of these appointments will allows the commission to begin working in the community.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully requested the nominated members be appointed to the new Advisory Commission on Disabilities at the Tuesday, January 22, 2019 City Council Meeting.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora's Advisory Commission on Disabilities is in need of members; and

WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that said candidates be appointed.
