SUBJECT:title

A Parking Study for Southlawn Place in the 1500 block.  Ward 5, Alderman Franco.

body

PURPOSE:

A Parking Study for Southlawn Place in the 1500 block to determine the need for restricting parking to one side of the street only.

BACKGROUND:

A Resident submitted PS # 1938226 expressing concern for traffic flow on Southlawn Place in the 1500 block when vehicles are parked on both sides of the narrow roadway.

DISCUSSION:

Parking on both sides of the roadway narrows it to the point that emergency vehicles may have a difficult time responding to calls.  The pavement is less than 26-ft.  The south side of the roadway has no curb, while the north side only has about 150-ft joining S. Evanslawn Avenue.  There are no sidewalks, and residents discourage walking on the grass.

Restricting parking to only the north side of Southlawn Place, from S. Evanslawn Avenue to S. Western Avenue, would improve traffic flow.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Operations would be responsible for installing the signage.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Staff recommends installing NO PARKING ANY TIME signage on the north side of Southlawn Place, from S. Evanslawn Avenue to S. Western Avenue.
