body

PURPOSE:

This wizard-themed festival includes classes, crafts, vendors, shows, games, rides, contests and other activities.

BACKGROUND:

The event was formerly Aurora's Harry Potter Festival. Now in its second year, organizers expect attendance to grow from 5,000 to at 6,000+. Partnering organization this year is Aurora Downtown.

DISCUSSION:

This year tickets will only be necessary for classes, all other aspects of the event will be open to the public. Organizers have contracted with ACCA for use of North Island Center for classes.  They are encouraging other downtown entities to tie into the theme to create synergy throughout the downtown.

Street closure is requested on Stolp from Downer to Galena as well as full use of Water Street Mall, Millennium Plaza, Building and Permits lot, the parking lot just north of Building and Permits, Mundy Park and Bielman Park.

Festival organizers are responsible for all costs relating to APD and AFD and are working closely with Special Events on all other logistical needs.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

City services are requested from the following departments/divisions:

Electrical, Water & Sewer, APD, AFD, Streets, Fire Prevention and Special Events.  A detailed City Services Request will be forwarded to effected departments and divisions once all details have been finalized.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
