SUBJECT:
A request to approve the purchase of a Vermeer BC1800XL chipper from Vermeer Midwest as a sole source in the amount of $48,644.00.
PURPOSE:
To assure that Street Maintenance Division has dependable and efficient equipment for their forestry crews maintenance needs.
BACKGROUND:
Currently Aurora has four Vermeer chippers - Street Maintenance has three BC1800 series chippers and the Park Maintenance has one BC1500 series chipper that needs major repairs including engine replacement. This unit will be traded-in and Vermeer Midwest has provided a trade-in allowance of $2,500.00.
The purchase of one Demo Vermeer BC1800XL will standardize all City chippers to the identical model. This will provide efficiencies with operator familiarity and mechanical repairs. In addition Aurora's forestry crews have used these Vermeer chippers for many years and these units have a proven record as a dependable machine.
Street Maintenance will also be trading-in the oldest of their two Vermeer SC602 stump grinders. Unit 48-357 is a 2012 model that has been rarely used since the Emerald Ash Borer tree eradication has come to an end and Vermeer Midwest has provided a trade-in allowance of $14,000.00.
DISCUSSION:
Vermeer Midwest located at 2801 Beverly Drive, Aurora, IL has provided Quote # 01123A-R2, using NJPA Contract #062117-VRM pricing, for a Vermeer BC1800XL in the amount of $63,644.00 less the trade-in allowances of $16,500.00 for a total purchase price of $48,644.00.
$48,700.00 will be transferred from account 340-4460-431.75-10 into account 340-4460-431.63-99 to fund this purchase.
