SUBJECT:
A Resolution Establishing the City of Aurora "Bicycle, Pedestrian and Transit Advisory Board" By-Laws.
PURPOSE:
To establish the By-Laws for the newly created Bicycle, Pedestrian and Transit Advisory Board.
BACKGROUND:
In 2009, the City of Aurora implemented a Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan in order to "enhance the desirability of bicycle and pedestrian travel" and to "improve bikeway and sidewalk connections to existing and future transit facilities, between neighborhoods and among surrounding communities".
One of the components of the plan is to establish a Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee to continue to support and advise on the planning process as well as gather community input.
DISCUSSION:
The Resolution attached includes By-Laws developed using the best practices from other similar City commissions, boards and councils. The City of Aurora Bicycle, Pedestrian and Transit Advisory Board may from time to time request amendments to these By-Laws subject to review and approval of the City Council.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Planning and Zoning Division would anticipate that the establishment of this advisory board and in turn these By-Laws will have a positive impact on the City's health, welfare, overall tax base and viability.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends approval of the Resolution Establishing "Bicycle, Pedestrian and Transit Advisory Board" By-Laws.
