SUBJECT:
Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.
PURPOSE:
To increase the number of Class F - Beer and Wine Restaurant licenses by one (1) license, increasing the total maximum number of Class F to 13.
BACKGROUND:
This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.
DISCUSSION:
Andre Thomas d/b/a Thomas Barbeque, located at 2711 E. New York St., Aurora, Illinois, submitted a liquor license application seeking a Class F license for the purpose of selling to the general public beer and wine by the drink for consumption on the premises and in conjunction with the sale of food. Thomas Barbeque has been successfully operating as a food service establishment out of this location since 2011, and is seeking to expand his operations by obtaining a liquor license, and being able to offer beer and wine to its patrons in conjunction with meals.
Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would increase the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the license by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business owner to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
