SUBJECT:
Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.
PURPOSE:
To increase the number of Class S- recreational facility licenses by one to a total of 1.
BACKGROUND:
This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.
DISCUSSION:
Balaxi FEC Aurora LLC d/b/a Glowzone, to be located at 301 S. State Route 59, Aurora, Illinois, 60504 has submitted a liquor license application seeking a Class S license for the purpose of selling to the general public alcoholic liquor by the drink for consumption on the premises where sold, and not for resale in any form, provided that such sales shall be only in conjunction with the sale of food for consumption on the premises.
Glowzone is a new recreational facility being built at the vacated former retail location. The recreational facility is a family entertainment center featuring a ropes course, ninja course, miniature golf, rock climbing and go carts.
Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would increase the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the license by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business owner to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
