A Parking Study for N. May Street in the 300 block. Ward 4, Alderman Donnell.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study for N. May Street to determine the warrants for an on-street Handicap parking space in front of 305-307 N. May Street.
BACKGROUND:
A request was submitted by E-mail (10/13/17) for an on-street Handicap parking space in front of 305-307 N. May Street. The request also included tree trimming and installing a concrete walk from curb to sidewalk (property owner would be responsible for installing a concrete walk/ramp, in the parkway, via City Permit).
DISCUSSION:
N. May Street is classified as a 25 mph residential roadway, and is the standard 29.5' in width. Parking is available on both sides of the roadway, with a driveway on the south side of the property.
The building at 305-307 N. May Street is a residential duplex. The front entrance of the duplex has five steps, another three steps at the sidewalk and concrete approach, without a handicap ramp. The front curb stretches about 40', reduced to 30' when subtracting no parking zones for driveways (5 feet) on either side. Aside from room for parking space at the front curb, parking is available in a one-lane driveway, without garage.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Street Department resources to install signage.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends approval of handicap parking installation in front of 305-307 N. May Street.
