SUBJECT: title
A Traffic Study for STOP signage at the exits to East High onto 6th Avenue. Ward 3, Alderman Mesiacos
body
PURPOSE:
To determine appropriateness STOP signage for the exits of East High onto 6th Avenue.
BACKGROUND:
A concerned resident sent an E-mail to the Alderman's Office expressing concern over the state traffic at the exits of Aurora East High School and Gates Avenue onto 6th Avenue.
DISCUSSION:
There is no STOP signage at the intersection of 6th and State Street nor at the intersection of 7th and State Street. However, the intersection of Gates Street and State Street is an all-way stop. Traditionally, intersecting streets are provided with stop control. The request was for the thru movement to be stop control while right turn from one street to another be provided free flow. This is counter to driver expectancy and is not supported. However, staff support installation of approach stop control at side streets where no control currently exist.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operation Deprtment will be required to install two stop sign assemblies.
\
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends a Stop sign at the southbound approach at State Street and 6th Avenue and a Stop Sign at the northbound approach of 7th Avenue and 6th Avenue.
