SUBJECT:title
A Traffic Study for Summerhill Drive at the intersections of Suncrest Drive and Summerhill Court. Ward 5, Alderman Franco.
body
PURPOSE:
A Traffic Study was requested for the possibility of installing additional signage on Summerhill Drive.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted ACR Case ID 135229 requesting the installation of STOP signs at two intersections on Summerhill Drive.
DISCUSSION:
As a reminder, the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices expressively states in Section 2B.04 'yield or stop signs should not be used for speed control'.
Both intersections are uncontrolled with no Stop or Yield signage. Both roadways are residential with low volumes (less than 1000 ADT). Suncrest Drive has a three-way Stop intersection to the east, and a 90-degree curve close by to the west, both of which provide natural traffic calming. Summerhill Drive was not investigated for the purpose of this traffic study because it "T"s into the intersection at Suncrest Drive.
With that said, existing conditions do not warrant an all way stop based on volumes, pedestrians, or crash history. The roadway does not meet the minimum qualifications for traffic calming
Nevertheless, the installation of a STOP sign on the northbound approach of Summerhill Drive at Suncrest Drive Summerhill Ct at Summerhill Drive would clarify right of way.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations would be responsible for installing the STOP signage.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends installation of a STOP sign on the northbound approach of Summerhill Drive at Suncrest Drive. And at Summerhill Ct on the eastbound approach to Summerhill Dr.
