A Traffic Study for O'Brien Drive for the installation of NO PARKING signs on both sides of the street in addition to the existing Yellow Curb.  Ward 10, Alderman Johnson
body
PURPOSE:
To determine the best Parking signage and Yellow Curb painting for O'Brien Drive, a short street, about 475-ft long.

BACKGROUND:
O'Brien Drive is a short street, only 475-ft long.  It has 10 residential addresses on the eastern half, and the western half is commercial.  Each residential unit has a two-car garage, driveway parking, but on-street parking is limited.  Most parking issues in this area are generated by the lack of parking for the volleyball facility located on Oakhurst Drive

DISCUSSION:
On-Street parking is limited, but each resident has a two-car garage.    Yellow Curb exists near corners at Conservatory Lane, and for the entire western half of O'Brien Drive in the Commercial area.  The road narrows going East into the residential area, narrowing from 37-ft in the western commercial area down to 29.5-ft in the eastern residential.   By comparison, Conservatory Lane in the Madison Park Townhomes is also about 29.5-ft wide.  The residential portion of O'Brien Drive appears even more narrow when approached from the wide western portion of O'Brien.  The signage requested is a reinforcement of existing parking restrictions.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations will be required to install parking new signage.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends installation of NO PARKING ANYTIME signage where existing yellow curb is in place as weather permits.
