SUBJECT:title
A Parking Study for Fulton Street in the 900 block. Ward 2, Alderman Garza.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study for Fulton Street in the 900 block, Smith Street to Ohio Street, to determine if on-street parking restrictions can be removed.
BACKGROUND:
Alderman Garza requested a parking study, to determine if some or all of the NO PARKING signage, in the 900 block of Fulton Street could be removed, so residents and their visitors can gain on-street parking.
DISCUSSION:
Fulton Street is classified as a residential roadway, 29 feet in width, with a 25 mph speed limit. On-street parking is allowed, on the north side, in front of the apartments but restricted for the remainder of the 900 block. APD provided information on parking issues within the block, stating apartment vehicles would park in front of resident homes, even though there is adequate off-street parking for the apartments, especially at the east end of the block, on the south side of Fulton Street. APD did not have an issue with removal of NO PARKING signage, for most of the block, but recommended keeping NO PARKING signage near the apartments.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Street Department resources.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends removal of NO PARKING signage except for the south curb line of Fulton Street, from 943 Fulton eastward to Ohio Street. Staff recommends the addition of a NO PARKING THIS SIDE sign with arrow pointing east toward Ohio Street, to be placed in front of 943 Fulton.
