PURPOSE:

Youth and Senior Services is requesting approval to hold the Aurora Sports Festival during May, the National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.

 

BACKGROUND:

The 22nd annual event will involve approximately 1,000 local middle school students and is held in cooperation with the Fox Valley Park District and Aurora Township, and middle school teachers.  The base of the competitive events as well as the opening and closing ceremonies will take place at various Phillips Parks locations.  Several other competitions will be held at East High School, the Aurora Skate Center, and Parkside Lanes.

 

DISCUSSION:

The costs to hold the Aurora Sports Festival will be paid out of Youth and Senior Services Division accounts.

 

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Services are needed from the Aurora Police Department for Officer Security Patrol by car and bicycles, the Aurora Fire Department for Paramedics and Emergency Management, Parks and Recreation Division for use of the main pavilion and extended area for amusements, visitors center set up with tables and chairs, 5 volleyball and 3 bag toss areas, 4 basketball goals transport and set up in the aquatic center parking lot, 3 softball fields, three hole golf course area, 6-8 golf carts, tennis courts, garbage barrels, scoreboard and welcome sign set-up, water fountains operable, and port-a-pots, and Special Events for use of walkie-talkie hand held communication devices.

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

 Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for approval.
