A Traffic Study near Summerlin Park. Ward 9, Alderman Bugg
body
PURPOSE:
To study the options for Pedestrian Crossing alerts at the intersection of Summerlin Drive and Grantham Lane. Ward 9, Alderman Bugg
BACKGROUND:
A resident submitted ACR Case ID 90142 expressing concern for Pedestrian Crossing alerts at the intersection of Summerlin Drive and Grantham Lane. A Pedestrian Crosswalk exists across Summerlin Drive with curb cuts and six-inch dual white line pavement markings. There is a STOP sign on Grantham Lane. The Pedestrian Crossing has signage on the north and south, but it is outdated signage of two children on a teeter-totter with a 20mph square sign attached below (see photo).
DISCUSSION:
Summerlin Park is divided from the Summerlin Subdivision by Summerlin Drive. The Pedestrian Crossing at Grantham Lane is scheduled for the pavement markings to be refreshed this year. The north and southbound approaches to the crosswalk have the outdated teeter-totter signage, which needs to be updated to recognizable Pedestrian Crossing Ahead signage.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Funding will be required for the Operations Department.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends proceeding with scheduled refreshing of crosswalk pavement markings and installation of Pedestrian Crossing Ahead signage to replace the vague and outdated existing signage.
