body

PURPOSE:

A family fun run to promote fitness.

BACKGROUND:

The first year of the event was 2013 and the base of operations was on River St. and the route went north on the west side of the Fox River Trail and back.  It was determine that there were too many runners for that type of route.  Since that time, the event has been based at River Edge Park and has used the dedicated downtown route for large number of runners.

DISCUSSION:

In 2016, over 4,000 people participated and this year 4,500 people are expected to participate and 30-50 staff/volunteers help.  River Edge Park will be the base of operations again.  The Color Vibe 5K is the sponsor organization and responsible for all costs associated with holding this proposed event.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

City services are needed from the Aurora Police Department Traffic Control Division and MVPS Maintenance for payment of parking at ATC.  Color Vibe will need to get separate approval from the Fox Valley Park District for use of the trail.  Additionally, the sponsor organization will need to contract out directly with Road Safe to provide the same number and specifications for barricades and cones as has been done the past 3 years.  The run will need to start no later than 7:30am and final runners need to be through the corner of New York Street and Broadway by 8:20am to open up traffic for Hollywood Casino.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for review/approval.
