SUBJECT:title

An informational presentation on the acceptance of a $2,500 grant award from Petco Love.

body

PURPOSE:

Animal Care and Control to present on use of prior Petco Love grant award funds and plans for funds received in 2025.

BACKGROUND:

Aurora Animal Care and Control protects the health, safety, and welfare of people and pets through animal sheltering, pet placement, and high-quality animal control services.

Aurora Animal Care and Control has provided services to the public such as humane education on responsible pet ownership and animal safety as well as low-cost or free veterinary care.

In the Spring of 2024, Aurora Animal Care and Control received a grant award through Petco Love (R24-156). These funds were able to provide the community with low-cost microchipping services. Approximately 250 microchips were implanted, helping pets stay safe if lost. Aurora University Police were also supplied with a microchip scanner and cage, so animals who are found on campus could be returned home without a trip to the City's shelter.

In the Spring of 2025, Aurora Animal Care and Control received a grant award through Petco Love to support and further our lifesaving efforts.

DISCUSSION:

This Petco Love grant award of $2,500 may be used for any lifesaving purpose.

Aurora Animal Care and Control intends to use this grant award to advance our community outreach with the goal of keeping pets in their loving homes.

The grant will be recorded as revenue in account 101-4410-337.30-40.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Providing these services to the public will increase the human-animal bond between pets and their owners, keeping them in their homes and saving lives.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

No action is required, this is a presentation for informational purposes only.
