Resolution approving the sale of 498 double parking meters and 327 single parking meters to Meter Products Co/ Take a Powder Inc. of Paterson, New Jersey in the amount totaling $13,230.00.

PURPOSE:
To obtain the approval to sell all of the parking meters removed from Downtown streets and parking lots.
BACKGROUND:
In May 2013 the City of Aurora revised the downtown parking policy and authorized the removal of all parking meters in the city's downtown. If meters are ever again authorized for use, new meters would need to be procured because the meters currently on hand are already technologically obsolete.
DISCUSSION:
The City of Aurora Staff Parking Committee is recommending disposal of the used meters. Meter Products Company has offered to purchase all parking meters that the city currently has on hand for a price of $10 for each single meter and $20 for each double meter. The company will also pay the cost of shipping. Additionally, the sale of the meters will free up needed storage space in the Central Garage.
Parking Today magazine has recommended Meter Products Company to the city as a purchaser of our parking meters. The magazine's staff indicated to us that the company is the only major purchaser of used parking meters. Our internet search also revealed that the prices offered by Meter Products Company are reasonable. We found that used parking meters similar to ours are being sold on the GovDeals.com and Amazon.com websites at prices ranging between $9 and $10 each.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Sale of the parking meters will have little or no impact on any city department.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the City Council approve the attached resolution that will authorize the sale of the city's used parking meters to Meter Products Company/Take a Powder, Inc.
