A Traffic Study for Bilter Road at I-88 exit ramp. Ward 10, Alderman Johnson.
body
PURPOSE:
A Traffic Study for Bilter Road west of I-88 exit ramp to investigate installing Truck Route signage.
BACKGROUND:
A request was received in ACR Case ID 145457 to install TRUCKS: NO LEFT TURN signage at the Bilter Road and I-88 exit ramp.
DISCUSSION:
Reviewing the current City Truck Route Map, Bilter Road is a valid City Truck Route going west from Eola Road, past the I-88 exit, past DuPage Pkwy, and effectively ending at the city limits just west of Charter Oak Drive. The roadway outside of city limits is the only stretch of two-lane between Eola Road and Farnsworth Avenue.
A recent Traffic Study revealed an increase in ADT Vehicles per Day from 7,300 in May 2014, to 9,000 in August 2016. Truck traffic decreased despite the increase in overall traffic, from 197 tractor-trailers per day in May 2013, to 32 per day in August 2016.
The intersection is already heavily signed. Seeing no urgent need staff is recommending denial.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
No action at this time.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends denial of additional signage.
