SUBJECT:title

Run and Achieve is requesting permission to hold the Pure Pikermi Half Marathon and Relay on Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 8:00 am to 11:00 am.

body

PURPOSE:

The Pure Pikermi Half Marathon and Relay showcases the Fox River and Gillman Trail from Aurora to Batavia and back.

BACKGROUND:

Run and Achieve sponsors this and several other runs in the Fox Valley area.  This is the second year for this event which expects approximately 200 runners.

DISCUSSION:

Run and Achieve is proposing to hold the event with a start line on the east side of River St. in the street, and north of the corner of River and Vine Streets, keeping traffic open on River up to and including Vine.  Traffic will be on one side of River at the beginning of the run and totally open afterwards.  The runners will run north on River and connect with the west side of the Fox River Trail running north, crossing over Illinois.  On the return, coming back south on the same stretch and ending at a point along the trail, not in the street. Run and Achieve is expecting 200 people to participate and 20 staff/volunteers to help.  Organizers are responsible for all costs associated with holding this proposed event, and will need to seek approval from the FVPD, and all entities involved with the route north of Aurora.

In the event of inclement weather the start will be either delayed or cancelled depending upon the severity.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

City services will be needed from the Aurora Police Department Traffic Division to assist with the crossing at Illinois Avenue.  .

RECOMMENDATIONS:

I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
