SUBJECT:
Truck 6 Engine Replacement Payment Ratification

PURPOSE:
To ensure the continued readiness of the Aurora Fire Department Vehicle Fleet.

BACKGROUND:
Truck 6 is a 2012 E-One and one of three front-line ladder trucks currently in use by the Aurora Fire Department serving the City's East side. The truck is powered by a Cummins ISX series diesel engine and in addition to other life-saving equipment, the truck is equipped with a ninety-five foot (95') articulating ladder and extrication equipment.

On October 29th of 2020, Truck 6 was towed to Aurora's Central Garage with a failure to start condition. The truck was inspected by fleet technicians who determined that the no start condition was due to a faulty oil charged fuel pump. The service team at Rush Truck Centers agreed with Aurora's technician's concerns and proposed a complete engine replacement for $59,645.00. The quoted price includes an $8,645.00 manufacturer engine core charge which will be refunded to the City upon receipt of the old engine.

With Truck 6 out of service there are no reserve ladder trucks available. Should one of the remaining trucks require scheduled service or experience a mechanical failure, it would impede the fire department's ability to provide necessary services. Given T6's projected twelve to seventeen years of remaining life, otherwise good condition,...
