TO: Mayor Thomas J. Weisner

FROM: Raymond Hull, Superintendent of Water and Sewer Maintenance

DATE: December 30, 2014

SUBJECT:
A Resolution to accept Plumbing Service Bids for the Water and Sewer Maintenance Division.

PURPOSE:
In accordance with Municipal Code Section 48-26 (Utility: Responsibility for Installation and Maintenance) the City of Aurora provides plumbing services to make repairs from the corporation cock at the water main up and including the water meter. All repairs are performed by licensed plumbers.
.

BACKGROUND:
Plumbing service bids are solicited annually. This year we received submissions from 9 area plumbers. A rotating system is utilized to distribute service calls .

DISCUSSION:
The Water and Sewer Fund allocates $189,000 for plumbing services in account 510-4063-511.38-45 of Water and Sewer Maintenance budget.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
While the City of Aurora is not responsible for damage caused by leaking water service lines we make every effort to minimize any such damage. Our main goal is to have internal leaks repaired as soon as possible. Plumbers are typically dispatched within an hour of our office receiving notification of a leak prior to the meter

RECOMMENDATIONS:
I recommend the attached plumbing service bids be approved and forwarded to the BGI committee for the January 12, 2015 meeting.
