TO: Mayor Richard C. Irvin
FROM: Alex Voigt, Deputy Chief of Staff
DATE: June 13, 2019
SUBJECT:
An Ordinance suspending certain provisions in the Water Conservation Ordinance until July 19, 2019.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this item is to provide Aurora residents and businesses more time to install sod following the rainy spring.
BACKGROUND:
The spring of 2019 brought with it record rainfall, making it difficult for residents and business to schedule and successfully install sod. Article II, Division 1, Sec. 48-31. "Water Conservation" of the City of Aurora's Code of Ordinances expressly prohibits sod installation past July 1.
DISCUSSION:
The Mayor's Office has received calls from residents who have been unable to schedule sod installation due to the weather. This suspension will provide some temporary relief without making a permanent change. Due to the time sensitive nature, it is being presented as a "New Business" item, if approved the information regarding the extended timeframe information will be distributed publicly.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
If approved, this temporary suspension will have a positive impact on residents and businesses in Aurora.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully requested this Ordinance is adopted at the Tuesday, June 25, 2019 City Council Meeting.
