SUBJECT:

A Resolution Appointing Martin Lyons to the Aurora Firefighters Pension Fund Board.

 

DISCUSSION:

The Aurora Firefighters Pension Fund Board is a five member board. Three of the five members are elected, two by active pension members and one by the beneficiaries. The remaining two members are appointed by the Mayor. 

 

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the City Council approve the appointment of Martin Lyons to the Aurora Firefighters Pension Fund Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

 

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

 

WHEREAS, a vacancy currently exists on the Firefighters Pension Fund Board; and

 

WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that said candidate be appointed.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointment of Martin Lyons, Downers Grove, IL as a member of the Aurora Firefighters Pension Fund Board.

 

NOW BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the term of Martin Lyons shall expire April 30, 2021, however, in any event, he shall continue to serve until his respective replacement has been approved by the Council
