SUBJECT: title
A Traffic Study for Sixth Avenue between Union Street and Gates Street for parking restrictions. Ward 3, Alderman Mesiacos
body
PURPOSE:
To determine appropriateness of parking restriction measures on Sixth Avenue between Union Street and Gates Street.
BACKGROUND:
A resident submitted an ACR Case ID 79862 expressing concern about vehicles parking on the lawn on Sixth Avenue between Union Street and Gates Street. The North side of the street has a gravel shoulder while the South side of Sixth Avenue is mostly lawn.
DISCUSSION:
Vehicles parking on the southern lawn side of Sixth Avenue have left visible rutting which is exasperated by wet weather. Parking is not restricted for either side of Sixth Avenue from Union Street to Gates Street; however a homemade no parking by police order has apparently been placed on a pole by a resident. The paved roadway is slightly over 24 foot in width. This width is not conducive to parking without a reinforced shoulder.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations Department would be required to install NO PARKING ANY TIME signage on the south side of the street.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends NO PARKING ANY TIME signage for the South side of Sixth Avenue from Union Street to Gates Street.
