body

PURPOSE:

This annual event unites the citizens of Aurora in celebration of our countries independence and follows the parade done earlier in the day.

BACKGROUND:

This is the City's largest event and is coordinated through the Special Events Division.  To alleviate traffic congestion and parking issues there are six shuttle bus routes located throughout the city.

Programming will take place at McCullough Park and RiverEdge Park (ACCA coordinates all activities as REP).

Fireworks are shot from Veterans Island south of Illinois Avenue.  An IGA is in place with the FVPD for the use of both properties. .

DISCUSSION:

The event is budgeted for in account 101-1341-450.53-01.  Expenses include fireworks, shuttle buses, signage, marketing, staging needs and entertainment fees.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

City departments and divisions meet several times prior to the event to work out logistics and services necessary to fully implement the event and assure public safety. Detailed lists go out to each affected department/division well in advance as well as a reminder a week prior to the event.

Support from the following City departments/divisions is requested; AFD, APD, Fire Prevention, EMA, Public Information, Streets, Electrical, Property Standards, Parks, Water & Sewer and Downtown Maintenance.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
