PURPOSE:
Youth & Senior Services is seeking approval to conduct the Aurora Sports Festival on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 8:30am to 3:00pm to promote May as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.
BACKGROUND:
The 20th annual event will draw approximately 1,000 students and in past years has been held with cooperation from the Fox Valley Park District, Aurora Township Youth Services, and local middle school staff. The opening/closing ceremonies as well as most of the competitions are held at Phillips Park. East High School, Parkside Lanes, and the Aurora Skate Center provide venues for the remaining competitions.
DISCUSSION:
The festival focuses on healthy sports competition for local middle school students and sufficient funds are available in the Sports Festival account 101-1370-440.50-91.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
City services are requested as follows: APD security operations, AFD on site paramedics and equipment, Parks Operations and Maintenance pavilion, fields, courts, parking, waste bins, visitor's center, golf course and carts, port a potty's, transport-set up/take down of basket goals. Special Events communication devices use. EMA monitoring of inclement weather, if necessary. Use of tents, tables, chairs, microphone, and sound systems.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
