PURPOSE:
To conduct a traffic study for the 500-600 Block of N. May Street.
BACKGROUND:
A Petition was submitted by the Residents of N. May Street in the 500-600 Block of N. May Street requesting Traffic Calming. The Residents specifically requested installation of a Speed Bump. (A submission in September 2014, of 13-00636, is not related to this Case File. File 13-00636 dealt with a parking request.)
DISCUSSION:
A Speed Study on May Street revealed Average Speeds of 24 to 26 mph. The 85th percentile speeds ranged from 33 to 34 mph. ADT was measured at a steady 600 vpd.
Per the traffic calming policy, the block question qualifies for traffic calming. Staff will work with the Alderman and residents to identify appropriate application
