DATE: August 4, 2014

SUBJECT:
A resolution to award a Contract to Superior Excavating Co. for the Charles-Harrison Sewer Project, located in Ward 4.

PURPOSE:
To award the above referenced project, which is part of the City's CSO Long Term Control Plan, approved by the IEPA, to separate combined sewers.

BACKGROUND:
The installation of this system is part of the City's CSO Long Term Control Plan to separate sanitary and storm sewers.

DISCUSSION:
On July 30, 2014, six (6) bids were received and publicly read aloud. The low bid was submitted by Superior Excavating Co. in the amount of nine hundred fifty thousand, one hundred and forty seven dollars and zero cents ($950,147.00). The 2014 LTCP Fee fund has budgeted funds for this work within project B031 account 281-1856-512-73-09. The bid was checked for reasonableness and accuracy. The project area is scheduled for repaving in 2015, we would like to begin construction this season to avoid conflicts with new paving operations.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
The installation of storm sewer will help alleviate sewer back-ups into residential basements, and reduce the frequency of combined sewer overflows into the Fox River.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
We respectfully request this resolution be forwarded to the BGI Committee for their review and approval.
