SUBJECT:
Requesting approval of Amendment to Chapter 27, specifically Sec. 27-176 "Parking Commercial Vehicles, Trailers, Truck Trailers and Truck Tractors in Residential Districts".
PURPOSE:
The proposed amendment will provide uniformity and will allow immediate enforcement action by the Aurora Police Department of commercial vehicles, trailers, and truck tractors parking regulations. The proposed amendment will simplify and clarify for residents and motorists parking regulations throughout the various zoning districts in the City".
BACKGROUND:
Residential area occupants continuously raised issues and concerns of commercial vehicles parking on residential streets which caused congestion, increased traffic, excessive noise and eliminated parking on residential streets.
DISCUSSION:
The proposed amendment will create a single uniform ordinance for all areas of the City that can be enforced immediately by the police department. The proposed amendment will not affect commercial vehicles used for deliveries or rendering services to a nearby business or residential area. The proposed amendment is like what other municipalities and cities nearby have enacted which will prevent those commercial vehicles from using City streets as a parking opportunity.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The proposed amendment will improve traffic congestion, reduce traffic safety concerns regarding visibility, reduce excessive noise and address other quality of life concerns that have been frequently raided to the Aurora Police Department by residents.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed ordinance be enacted.
