PURPOSE:

This public hearing is to allow for public comment regarding a proposed grant application by the City of Aurora on behalf of Hesed House to fund renovations to their family shelter. The conduct of this hearing is specified by the grant guidelines.

 

BACKGROUND:

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) is offering a funding opportunity to units of local government in areas that receive entitlement Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for construction, renovation or rehabilitation of shelters for the homeless, including shelters for domestic violence victims.

 

DISCUSSION:

This project will renovate the existing facility at Hesed House, allowing the shelter to safely house 120 individuals in its family shelter. A draft of the complete grant application is attached to this item. The draft will be finalized after the end of the public comment period and passage of a resolution authorizing the submission of the application.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

If this project is funded, it will improve the capacity of Hesed House to serve homeless individuals and families in Aurora.
