SUBJECT:title
The American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure Bike Ride, Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 5:00 AM to 4:00 PM..
body
PURPOSE:
To raise funds for diabetes research, advocacy, education, and programs.
BACKGROUND:
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) initial foray into Aurora consisted of the bike riders crossing over the Illinois Ave bridge to reach the west side of the river trail to head north. Subsequently, the ADA planned and prepared to use downtown Aurora as one of its events and used the Two Brothers Roundhouse and Aurora Transportation, parking lot areas as its base. Now, and for the past several years, the base of the event has been River Edge Park. Last year, 1500 people participated in the Tour de Cure.
DISCUSSION:
The ADA is expecting 2000 people to participate in the Tour de Cure this year and 250 staff/volunteers to help. The ADA will need to work directly with Downtown Services for parking arrangements at the Aurora Transportation Center. Trail events approval are contingent on the sponsor getting permits to use parts of the route under the jurisdictions of other entities. The ADA is responsible for all costs associated with holding this proposed event.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
City services will be needed from the Aurora Police Department Traffic Control Division and the Downtown Services Division for parking
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for review/approval
