PURPOSE:

A Traffic Study for the 800 block of Sheldon Avenue to determine the possibility of traffic calming. 

 

BACKGROUND:

A Resident submitted ACR Case ID 136275 expressing concern for traffic speeds on Sheldon Avenue. 

 

DISCUSSION:

The Sheldon Avenue roadway is Residential with a standard 25 mph speed limit.  The roadway measures the standard 29.5-ft width.  The roadway does not have parking restrictions.  The road surface and curbs are in good condition. The northern end of Sheldon Avenue ends in a 90-degree turn with California Avenue.  The intersection of Sheldon Avenue and New Haven Avenue has 2-way STOP signage on New Haven as it approaches Sheldon Avenue.  There is also CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP signage.  Traffic studies on Sheldon Avenue revealed (14-00683) an Average Speed of 25 mph, a Median Speed of 26 mph, and the 85th Percentile Speed of 31 mph.  The ADT was found to be about 450 vpd.  Sheldon Avenue in this area is only two blocks long. 

 

 This roadway does not qualify for traffic calming based on low ADT traffic volume.

 

IMPACT STATEMENT:

No action, no impact. 

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

 Staff recommends acceptance of traffic study.
