PURPOSE:
Communities in Schools of Aurora and the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry are requesting approval of their application to hold the 2nd 2 None 5K-10K Run Walk to raise funds to support programs that feed children who are at risk of hunger.
BACKGROUND:
Communities in Schools started a 5K run at Phillips Park 11 years ago as a part of the Aurora Sports Festival weekend of activities. After several years, Communities in Schools developed a collaboration with the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry to hold a 5K fundraiser a part from the Sports Festival. The collaboration has been successful holding the 5K at Phillips Park and the River Street Park in downtown Aurora. Last year, the event began and ended at River Edge Park.
DISCUSSION:
The collaborating organizations are responsible for all costs associated with holding this event. The organizers are proposing to utilize the same 5K route as last year and offer a 10K route too that will cross over Illinois Ave, go north on the trail, turn around and come back south on the trail to Illinois Ave, cross over and complete the remainder of the route similarly as the 5K route.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
City services are needed from the Police Department Traffic Control Division, Street Maintenance Division for barricades, Downtown Services Division for parking at the ATC, and the Electrical Division for DJ, computer, and race timer equipment power.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for approval.
