body
PURPOSE:
To show support for the LGBTQ community in and around Aurora.
BACKGROUND:
This is the first major Pride Parade in northern Illinois, outside Chicago and is expected to bring large crowds to downtown Aurora.
DISCUSSION:
The Special Events Division will work closely with the organizers on the logistics and additional City services needed to assure a safe and well run event.
An additional permit request will be forthcoming for other activities going on in conjunction with the parade. Details are still being worked out and finalized. However, the parade organizers would like to start promoting and soliciting sponsorships prior to that being finalized.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
All logistics, (staging, route and City services) mirror that of Memorial Day utilizing the Downer Place route.
The affected departments/division are: APD, Streets, Electrical, MVPS, Downtown Maintenance, AFD, Property Standards, Water and Sewer and Special Events.
A detailed City services request will go out to all the departments/divisions listed above as well as a reminder a week prior to the event.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
