PURPOSE:
The Special Events Division is requesting permission to conduct the annual Veterans Day Parade on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 10:15 a.m. followed by a ceremony in front of the G.A.R. Museum.
 
BACKGROUND:
Last year the parade and ceremony was moved to the Illinois Bridge and Veterans Memorial Island due to the reconstruction of the Downer bridges. The City will work with Veterans organizations to plan and stage the event.
 
DISCUSSION:
Veterans Day Parade will step off at 10:15 am with staging at 9:15 am on Benton, just east of the library. The parade route is from Benton and Broadway to Downer Place and ends at Stolp. A ceremony will be conducted at the G.A. R. Museum. The ceremony will conclude at 11:15 am. The benefit of the Veterans Day Parade to the community is to demonstrate respect and honor to our Veterans.
 
IMPACT STATEMENT:
City Services include Police, EMA, Downtown Services, Streets, and  Electrical
to provide:
  • This event is budgeted from account 101-1320-450-53.10
  • Police assistance with street closure and traffic
  • EMA assistance for street closure
  • Downtown Services to provide tent, table, chairs, flags and podium to be set up in front of G.A.R.
  • MVPS to place “No Parking” signs along the parade route on Friday, November 8, 2013
  • Access to electric in front of the G.A. R.
  • Street Department will place barricades at the following intersections: Water and Clark, Water and Downer, Benton and Stolp, Benton & Broadway, Broadway and Downer and Downer and Stolp
