DATE: September 13, 2019
SUBJECT:
A Resolution appointing Leela Karumuri to the Indian American Community Outreach Advisory Board.
DISCUSSION:
The Indian American Community Outreach Advisory Board (IACOAB) was established in December, 2013. The board was created in response to requests from members of the Indian American community looking to become more involved with the City of Aurora.
The IACOAB was modeled after the City of Aurora's two other cultural/heritage boards, the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board and the African American Heritage Advisory Board. Similar to the other two boards, the IACOAB provides opportunities to engage members of the Indian American Community (in and outside of Aurora) with the city, in addition to promoting civic engagement at the local level and enhanced communication with the business community.
The board currently has vacancies.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the above appointment be approved.
