A Traffic Study for N. High Street in the 1000 block. Ward 1, Alderman Bohman.
body
PURPOSE:
A Traffic Study for N. High Street in the 1000 block to check speeds.
BACKGROUND:
A resident submitted PS # 2842872 expressing concern for traffic speeds on High Street in the 1000 block. Resident suggested more speed limit signs and possibly Children Playing signage.
DISCUSSION:
High Street is classified as a major collector, and is a wide 42.4-ft. This extra width allows for parking on both sides, yet still has width for two lanes of traffic.
Traffic counters on High Street revealed an ADT of 3,650 veh/day. Speeds were found to average 31 mph in both directions. Motorist appear to be obeying the 30 mph posted speed limit.
The City follows national practice, not installing Children at Play signage, do not want to encourage children playing in streets.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Street Department resources to install and maintain sign.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends one 30 mph speed limit sign to be placed just south of Indian Trail Road, on High Street for southbound traffic.
