SUBJECT:
A resolution to award a Contract to Gerardi Sewer & Water Co., 4520 North Osage, Norridge, IL 60706 for the Michigan Ave. Water Main Replacement Project in the amount of $202,670.00.

PURPOSE:
Michigan Ave. between Pennsylvania and Palace has been experiencing water main breaks during the past several years. Replacing the existing 6-inch failing water main with a new 8-inch water main will provide reliable service and improved fire protection for residents in the area. In addition, this block is scheduled for street resurfacing. This project will avoid the necessity of disturbing newly paved roadways.

BACKGROUND:
Michigan Ave. water main replacement plans were developed in response to a city-wide water main break evaluation and pavement resurfacing program. Installing the replacement water main between Pennsylvania and Palace will reduce the likelihood of pavement excavation due to water main breaks along the block. Plans were issued for bid and eight (8) qualified contractors submitted bids.

DISCUSSION:
Residents along this block of Michigan Ave. can expect improved fire protection and reliable water service after completion of this project. Water main will be increased from 6-inches to 8-inches and new services connections at the main will be installed. The lowest responsible bid was selected for the project.

This project has funds available in project IC076 account 510-4058-511-7302.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
Residents along this block should expect improved fire protection flows and more reliable water service. The water main breaks have been frequent along this block. In addition, street resurfacing plans will occur after the water main replacement, reducing the likelihood of pavement patching shortly after new pavement is installed.

Arrangements with a construction observation consultant are in process for the project. This will ...
