PURPOSE:

This public hearing is to allow for public comment regarding a proposed grant application by the City of Aurora on behalf of Mutual Ground to fund construction of a new shelter facility on the Mutual Ground campus. The conduct of this hearing is specified by the grant guidelines.

 

BACKGROUND:

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is offering a funding opportunity to units of local government in areas that receive entitlement Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for construction, renovation or rehabilitation of shelters for the homeless, including shelters for domestic violence victims.

 

DISCUSSION:

This project will construct a new, two-story, 40 bed 12,000 square foot housing facility for the women and children served by Mutual Ground. A draft of the complete grant application is attached to this item. The draft will be finalized after the end of the public comment period and passage of the resolution authorizing the submission of the application.

 

 

IMPACT STATEMENT:

If this project is funded, it will improve the capacity of Mutual Ground to serve victims of domestic violence in Aurora.
