A resolution appointing Andrew R. Smith to the Aurora Public Library Board.

 

DISCUSSION:

The Aurora Public Library Board is a nine (9) member board tasked with the overall governance of the library. The board is also responsible for supporting the mission of the Aurora Public Library, which is "dedicated to supporting the lifelong learning and access to information, knowledge and ideas", whose "vision is to nurture an educated, enlightened and enriched diverse community".

 

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the City Council approve the appointment of Andrew R. Smith to the Aurora Public Library Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

 

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

 

WHEREAS, a vacancy exists on the Aurora Public Library Board; and

 

WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that Andrew R. Smith be appointed to said board.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointment of Andrew R. Smith, Aurora, IL to the Aurora Public Library Board.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the term of Andrew R. Smith shall expire on June 30, 2016, however; in any event, the appointee shall serve until his respective replacement has been approved by the Council.
