SUBJECT:title

A Parking Study for Lakeside Drive in the 2200 block.  Ward 8, Alderman Mervine.

PURPOSE:

A Parking Study for Lakeside Drive in the 2200 block, on the curve, to determine the need for parking restrictions.

BACKGROUND:

A resident submitted PS # 3410148 expressing concern about traffic flow on the curve from the beginning of the curve at 2240 to the end of the curve near 2270 Lakeside Drive. Legistar 17-01174 was created and discussed by GO Committee on 3/13/18.  Committee decided not to sign a parking restriction and have APD patrol.  HOA has contacted Alderman Mervine to revisit the parking restriction, due to motorist visibility issues in traveling this section of Lakeside Drive.

DISCUSSION:

Lakeside Drive is a residential roadway with a 25 mph speed limit.  Field checks revealed parking on both sides of Lakeside Drive, within the curve (2240 to 2270 Lakeside Drive). The width of road is 26 feet, leaving approximately 14 feet, when vehicles are parked on both sides of the road, to accommodate two-way traffic flow within the curve.  Prohibiting parking on the inside of the curve would improve traffic flow and visibility.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Street Department and APD Resources

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Staff recommends installing NO PARKING THIS SIDE signage on the inside of the curve; from the beginning of the curve at 2240 to the end of the curve near 2270 Lakeside Drive.  APD random, selective enforcement of new NO PARKING signage.
