A resolution appointing an Alderman-at-Large for the City of Aurora.
PURPOSE:
Attached for your consideration at the Tuesday, May 27, 2025 City Council Meeting is a resolution seeking to appoint an Alderman-at-Large for the City of Aurora.
DISCUSSION:
Pursuant to Sec. 2-58 of the Aurora Municipal Code, "the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the city council, may appoint a person to serve as alderman in the vacancy until the next general election, as provided in this section, and until the person elected qualifies."
I have selected three (3) candidates out of the over one-hundred (100) applications that were submitted after an open invitation for applications was posted to complete the term of office of Alderman-at-Large left vacant by the recent Mayoral election.
RECOMMENDATION:
I respectfully request the City Council's approval of the appointment of the candidate identified in the attached Exhibit A as Alderman-at-Large for the City of Aurora.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, a vacancy in the office of alderperson at-large occurred by operation of law on May 13, 2025, due to the assumption of the office of mayor, by the incumbent John Laesch; and
