SUBJECT:title
A Traffic Study for the intersection of N. Root Street and Superior Street. Ward 2, Alderman Garza
body
PURPOSE:
Perform an intersection inspection to determine the necessity of STOP signage at the intersection of N. Root Street and Superior Street.
BACKGROUND:
A resident submitted ACR Case ID 96114 expressing concern that ever since Superior Street was converted to Two-Way traffic, the intersection with N. Root Street has been uncontrolled, with no STOP or YIELD signage.
DISCUSSION:
Superior Street was a One-Way street running east bound, but now it is a Two-Way street. The intersection of N. Root Street and Superior Street was left uncontrolled. Superior Street has a STOP sign to the east at High Street, and STOP sign to the west at N. Lincoln Avenue. Superior Street travels east a long way passing N. Farnsworth Avenue, while N. Root Street is only a few blocks long at that location in either direction. North bound N. Root Street traffic have a Line-of-Site issue with the old concrete wall on the east (on the right for east bound traffic), all of which would justify placing Two-Way STOP signage on N. Root Street approaching Superior Street.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations will install the Two-Way STOP signage and STOP BAR, with CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP signage on N. Root Street approaching Superior Street.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends installing Two-Way STOP signage and STOP BAR, with CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP signage on N. Root Street approaching Superior Street.
