SUBJECT:title

A Traffic Study for Stonebridge Blvd. near Downing Court.  Ward 10, Alderman Johnson.

body

PURPOSE:

A Traffic Study for Stonebridge Blvd. near Downing Court which is next to a golf cart crossing.

BACKGROUND:

A Resident submitted an E-mail (6-14-2016) expressing concern regarding speeds on Stonebridge Blvd.

DISCUSSION:

The location of the Traffic Study was chosen because of the nearby golf cart crossing and Stonebridge Country Club.  The roadway has a neighborhood speed limit of 25 mph.  The roadway has an ample width of 36-ft, and is classified as a Minor Collector.  The roadway is lined with trees in the area of the cart crosswalk.  Although the trees are trimmed to help avoid line-of-site problems, the trees create distinct shade on a sunny day, which may cause vision problems between dark shade spots and bright sunny spots.

Traffic counters on Stonebridge Blvd. revealed an ADT of 2,025 VPD.  Speeds were found to be average 33 mph, with a 85th percentile of 38 mph and a median of 33 mph.

The speeds on Stonebridge Blvd are significantly higher than the posted 25 MPH speed limits.  This is one of the neighborhood collector roadways that had the speed limit reduced form 30 MPH to 25 MPH.   This roadway should be posted at 30 MPH.  They will continue to see average speeds over 30MPH.   While staff does not recommend significant traffic calming in this area.  A radar feedback sign may help with the high end speeds.  This purchase would originate from Ward funds.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

No impact at this time.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Staff recommends acceptance of the Traffic Study.
