PURPOSE:
The homeowner, Thomas F. Orlowski, is applying for a Preservation Grant to restore the original 6/1 double hung wood windows for the property located at 333 Lawndale Avenue in the Riddle Highlands Historic District.

BACKGROUND:
This Preservation Grant application was submitted by the homeowner to the Planning & Zoning Division on August 29, 2013.

DISCUSSION:
Proposal: The proposal consists of restoring the original 6/1 double hung wood windows by replacing window sash cords, adding weatherstripping to windows, repair/replace glazing as needed, and to repair/replace broken sash locks and handles.

Evaluation: Staff has reviewed the Preservation Grant application and believes that this grant will help the owner preserve these character defining windows on this 1936 built home. The grant will increase the longevity of these characteristic windows which contribute to the historic feeling of the Riddle Highlands Historic District.

Public Input: At the September 26, 2013 special meeting of the Preservation Commission, applicants asked general questions about the Preservation Grant Program. A few of the applicants commented on grant applications submitted by others. Comments were positive. One homeowner stated that the Preservation Grants will benefit the entire neighborhood.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Planning and Zoning Division does not anticipate any impact to other City Departments with the approval of this Petition.
