SUBJECT:
Resolution Authorizing the Sale of Obsolete and Surplus Property

PURPOSE:
To gain maximum resale value of vehicles and equipment from various departments that will be replaced in 2017

BACKGROUND:
The City of Aurora has disposed of City vehicles and equipment in public auctions for more than twenty years. Equipment Services strips every vehicle of any City decals, insurance cards or other identification. The Police squad cars are stripped of the decals, emergency lighting, Ford Interceptor badge, spot lights and all other police related equipment. Police vehicles are painted black before disposal.

DISCUSSION:
This year, the City will have approximately 30 vehicles to sell. In addition to offering vehicles for sale at live auction and possibly a limited number of vehicles on-line to determine whether a greater return can be achieved through an on-line marketplace.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
There is no impact to other City Divisions

The proceeds from the sale of vehicles are recorded as revenue in account 101-0000-392.01-00

RECOMMENDATIONS:
I recommend that the City Council adopts a resolution authorizing the sale of City of Aurora's obsolete and surplus property.
