DATE: January 20, 2017
SUBJECT:
Request approval to enter into an agreement with The Strathmore Company to print and mail six (6) issues per year Aurora's community newsletter, The Borealis, in the amount of $66,830.40 per year for two years.
PURPOSE:
The City of Aurora produces a citywide newsletter to inform the residents and businesses of Aurora. The Aurora Borealis is printed and mailed to all addresses in Aurora. The agreement with The Strathmore Company is to print and mail the newsletter up to six times per year.
BACKGROUND:
The Aurora Borealis is a printed newsletter distributed up to six times per year to all addresses in Aurora. As part of an overall communications plan, the Borealis provides a regular way to inform Aurora's residents and businesses about services, events and achievements in Aurora. Coupled with additional methods of communication, the Borealis is the direct-marketing piece that is reflective of Aurora's new brand print.
The 8-page document generally includes a cover page with an index that highlights recent achievements in Aurora, a calendar of citywide activities for the represented months, a letter from the mayor, pertinent city services and spotlights on aldermen, youth, seniors and services that alternate throughout the year.
After spending time to review the overall communications plan, including social media, video production, and additional print opportunities, the proposal will complete and integral part of the plan that allows for the production of the Borealis in a systematic and fiscally-responsible way.
DISCUSSION:
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The need for effective, efficient and timely communication is mandatory for the success of any municipality.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed resolution be adopted.
